Kyphosis Surgery
Prof. Dr. Sinan KAHRAMAN and her expert team safely perform treatments and achieve successful results.
Kyphosis Treatment
Kyphosis surgery can be examined in two main groups: adults and children. In children, kyphosis observed during adolescence is generally treated surgically if the curvature exceeds 75–80°, if there is chronic back and lower back pain, and if it does not respond to physical therapy.
In adults, surgical treatment is applied if spinal balance is disrupted and chronic back and lower back pain occurs.
How Is Kyphosis Surgery Performed?
Similar to scoliosis surgery, screws are placed at specific levels of the spine. Using the force applied through these screws, metal rods are shaped to correct the curvature.
What Are the Advantages of Kyphosis Surgery?
The shape of the spine is corrected. Chronic back and lower back pain is relieved. It also prevents the progression of the hunchback deformity and eliminates the need for more extensive surgery in the future.
Postoperative Process After Kyphosis Surgery
After kyphosis surgery, the patient is mobilized the next day and monitored in the hospital for about one week. Stitches are removed after 15 days. The patient can return to daily life after three weeks and resume sports activities after three months.
