Knee Arthroscopy

Prof. Dr. Sinan KAHRAMAN achieves successful outcomes by performing treatments safely with his expert team.

Knee Arthroscopy Surgery

Knee arthroscopy surgery is performed to repair a torn meniscus or remove the damaged meniscal fragment in cases of meniscus tears. It can also be used for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) repair or cartilage restoration.

How Is Knee Arthroscopy Performed?

Through two small incisions in the knee joint, a camera and surgical instruments are inserted to treat meniscus tears and cartilage damage within the joint.

What Are the Advantages of Knee Arthroscopy?

Since it is a minimally invasive procedure, the patient can be mobilized and start walking the next day. The hospital stay typically lasts 1–2 days.

Postoperative Process After Knee Arthroscopy

If the torn meniscus is removed, the patient can bear weight the next day. If a meniscus repair is performed, weight-bearing usually begins after 3 weeks, and physical therapy may be required for up to 6 weeks.

I am grateful to Prof. Sinan for everything and sincerely thank him for his kindness and attentive care. On July 15, 2016, my left leg was severely fractured in a traffic accident. There was a high risk of my leg becoming shorter, impaired, or leaving me with a limp. After three surgeries performed by Prof. Sinan, I was able to return to my place in the squad in amateur football matches.

I met Mr. Sinan because of my daughter’s scoliosis surgery. We are very lucky that he came into our lives during such a difficult time. His experience in his profession and his sincere care and attention to his patient left us in admiration. I saw in Dr. Sinan what it means to truly love one’s profession. After a 14-hour surgery, my daughter regained her health thanks to Dr. Sinan and his team. I don’t even know how to thank him. I wish Dr. Sinan success in his profession and happiness in his life.

Dr. Sinan, endless thanks for everything—we are truly grateful. Thanks to the surgery you performed, my mother’s shoulder pain, which had been keeping her awake especially at night for a year, has come to an end. You diagnosed the causes of her shoulder pain as frozen shoulder, degeneration, narrowing, and a tear, and you successfully treated all of them with a single operation. No matter how much we thank you, it is not enough—we are deeply grateful. We are so glad to have you. May God grant you strength and good health and never let you be absent from our lives. Wishing you continued success, Dr. Sinan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Knee Arthroscopy: Details and Recovery Process
Knee arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed to diagnose and treat problems occurring within the knee joint. This procedure is carried out using an arthroscope (a small camera) and surgical instruments inserted into the joint through small incisions. Knee arthroscopy is commonly used to treat various knee conditions such as meniscus tears, ligament injuries, cartilage damage, and joint inflammation.
How Is Knee Arthroscopy Performed?
The procedure is usually performed under general or regional anesthesia. The surgeon makes small incisions in the knee and inserts the arthroscope through one of them. The arthroscope provides a detailed view of the inside of the knee joint, guiding the surgeon during the operation. Surgical instruments are inserted through the other incisions to perform the necessary repair or cleaning procedures. The operation typically takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour.
Postoperative Recovery Process
The recovery process after knee arthroscopy varies depending on the type of procedure performed and the patient’s overall health. After the surgery, patients can usually return home within a few hours. During the first few days, swelling and pain in the knee may occur. In this period, applying cold compresses and keeping the leg elevated can be beneficial.
Benefits of Knee Arthroscopy
Knee arthroscopy has many advantages compared to open surgery. Due to small incisions, scarring is minimal and the recovery process is faster. Additionally, the risk of infection and complications is lower. Postoperative pain is generally less, and patients can return to their daily activities more quickly.
