Height Increase Surgery
Prof. Dr. Sinan KAHRAMAN achieves successful outcomes by performing treatments safely with his expert team.
Height Lengthening
Height lengthening surgery is primarily performed to extend a limb that has remained short due to leg trauma, tumors near growth plates, or infections. It can also be performed for cosmetic purposes in women shorter than 150 cm and men shorter than 160 cm.
How Is Height Lengthening Surgery Performed?
Using magnetic telescopic nails inserted into the bone, the length of the bone can be increased by approximately 1 mm per day. It is possible to achieve up to 8 cm lengthening in the femur and up to 6 cm in the tibia.
Postoperative Process After Height Lengthening Surgery
The follow-up period varies between 6 months and 1 year depending on the amount of lengthening performed. After the surgery, patients typically undergo physical therapy for about 3 months.

He graduated from Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine. Between 2004 and 2010, he completed his residency training in the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at Bezmialem Vakıf University Faculty of Medicine, becoming a specialist in Orthopedics and Traumatology.

Height Lengthening Surgery: Details and Recovery Process
Height lengthening surgery is a surgical procedure performed especially for individuals with short stature due to genetic or medical reasons. This operation aims to increase the patient’s height by lengthening the leg bones. Performed using advanced surgical techniques and specialized devices, this procedure can be applied for both cosmetic and functional purposes.
How Is Height Lengthening Surgery Performed?
Height lengthening surgery is typically performed using the Ilizarov method or other modern lengthening devices. These methods allow the bone to be lengthened in a controlled manner. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia and consists of several stages:
Cutting and Device Placement: The surgeon cuts the bone to be lengthened at a specific point (osteotomy) and then places external or internal lengthening devices at the ends of the bone.
Distraction (Lengthening) Phase: In the postoperative period, the bone ends are gradually separated with the help of the device. This process occurs at a rate of approximately 1 mm per day. During this period, new bone tissue forms.
Consolidation (Healing) Phase: Once the lengthening is complete, the newly formed bone tissue hardens and strengthens. This phase may take as long as or longer than the lengthening period.
Postoperative Recovery Process
The recovery process after height lengthening surgery is quite long and requires patience. In the first few days, pain and swelling may occur, so pain relievers and cold applications recommended by the doctor should be used.
Patients usually begin mobilization and physical therapy during the postoperative period. Physiotherapy is critical for strengthening the muscles and maintaining joint mobility. In addition, proper wound care and infection prevention measures are extremely important.
The full recovery and bone strengthening process typically takes 6–12 months. During this time, patients need to attend regular doctor check-ups and follow instructions to ensure the proper functioning of the device.
Benefits of Height Lengthening Surgery
Height lengthening surgery can improve patients’ physical appearance and boost their self-confidence. It can also provide functional improvements in the treatment of certain medical conditions. In the long term, patients can achieve significant gains both cosmetically and in terms of quality of life.
